De robe grenat, le vin est marqué par de jolis arômes de fruits rouges. Le vin est frais et ouvert, léger, peu extrait, charmant. À déguster sur ce fruit délicieux qui ouvre une ère nouvelle.
VERT DE VIN (JONATHAN CHICHEPORTICHE)

Le nez est fruité, élégant et o re une jolie dé nition, de la générosité, une ne tension, de la précision, de la complexité ainsi qu’une petite richesse. On y retrouve des notes de mûre charnue, de cassis charnu et plus légèrement de myrtille charnue associées à de nes touches de fraise, à des pointes de eurs (bleuet, pointe d’iris) ainsi qu’à de nes touches de toasté, de vanille Bourbon et à une très discrète pointe de poivre de Cuben. La bouche est fruitée, équilibrée, élégante et o re de la tension, une jolie nesse du grain, un joli fruit mûr/charnu, une ne trame acidulée, de la complexité, un n côté aérien, de la suavité, une belle nesse, une jolie dé nition, une texture nement crémeuse ainsi que de la gourmandise. En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de mûre charnue, de cassis charnu et plus légèrement de petits fruits bleus associées à de nes touches de eurs, de vanille, de chocolat, à de discrètes pointes d’amande écrasée (en fond) ainsi qu’à une discrète pointe de cardamone et à une imperceptible pointe d’iris (en n de bouche). Les tannins sont élégants, précis, bien menés et o rent une très ne mâche. Bonne longueur. Un joli vin !

An estate that’s on an upward trajectory, having just completed work on a new cellar, the 2018 Château Ripeau comes from just over 12 hectares of vines situated near the likes of Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and La Dominique, and is a rough blend of 67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon that will spend 16-18 months in new French oak. It o ers a deep purple color as well as terri c purity and precision in its vibrant cassis and black raspberry fruits and notes of spring owers, spice box, and earth. Medium to full-bodied, silky, and seamless on the palate, it has building tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and good concentration, and stays light on its feet and incredibly elegant. This estate is managed by Julien Salles and gets consulting advice from Claude Gros. My money is on this 2018 being the best to date, and I suspect the best is still to come!

2018 Château Ripeau (67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc et 3% Cabernet Sauvignon – 100% de bois neuf, dont de nombreux futs de 600 et 350 litres – Les nouvelles installations du cuvier livrées juste à temps pour élever et vini er chaque parcelle séparément – Vendanges entre le 4 et 12 Octobre – 14,2% d’ alcool, pH 3,59). Couleur rubis foncé, belle brillance. Nez noble et profond, qui va s’ouvrir avec le temps. Des notes de fumée, de cardamome et de chocolat noir sont liées à des notes de baies sombres, sur des notes orales et épicées, très complexes. La bouche est incroyablement
douce et accessible, le vin se répand, en prenant le palais et la langue. Le fruit est fascinant, merveilleusement frais, vif et clair, le piment de Cabernet Franc résonne avec énergie, immédiateté, tandis que le vin reste léger et plein de suspens, malgré sa force. Au nal, l’excellente longueur se termine sur un mélange épicé de fruits rouges et noirs. Très concentré, très posé, très élégant. Bravo! 2025-2045 + (Dégusté sur Château Ripeau, le 31/03/2019).

A dark, sweet and roasted character on the nose of this wine, from a grand cru classé estate located close to Château Jean Faure and Château La Commanderie. It feels smoky and intense, modern but savoury, with notes of black olive, currant and black pepper, touched with a little menthol and toast. The palate shows a lovely composition, open and accessible at rst, with a wealth of creamed blackcurrant fruits, along with liquorice, black bean and a menthol twist. There is a rm backbone to it though, with a fresh pile of grippy but tightly knit tannin, and a fresh acid lift to it. A very correct style, con dent yet cool and textured, with a fresh substance and gentle polish. The nish is full of grip, fresh and rather broad. A rather pretty, con dent and grippy style. Very well done.

New cellar. One cuve per parcel. Winemaker Julien Salles explains that they have done a lot of work with the Cabernet Franc parcels (draining the vineyard), allowing them a blend of 67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc planted 1955 and 1985 but the oldest ones were too wet and now with drainage they have much better quality on their blue clay. 20–30 mm rainfall early September so the ripening continued. Healthy vines. pH 3.59. ABarrelZsample.
Inky crimson. Fragrant and stony on the nose. Really elegant and so fresh. The Cabernet Franc sings with lively dark-red fruit, rounded out by the Merlot. Gently spicy. Moreish and full of energy. Very good and such a big step up from last year. Finest of tannins, which is unusual in 2018. Touch of dark chocolate on the nish. Persistent. Chapeau!

Pour la première fois 3,5 ha de Cabernet Franc ont pu être intégrés à l’assemblage. Bouquet complexe, encore marqué par son élevage, mais révélant des notes orales et fruitées avec des myrtilles et du cassis. Touche de violettes, caramel et nuance fumée. Au palais le vin est friand et crémeux. Caractère juteux et frais grâce à la vivacité de la structure. Les tannins sont élégants, parfaitement intégrés et en symbiose avec la structure. Last year, the Cabernet-heavy blend was forced by the frost, but this year it is entirely re ective of the new vineyard plantings, and of where they see the estate heading. 2018 is also the rst vintage in the new winery, allowing more precision over the di erent plots that was no doubt very welcome. Intense blueberry and cassis fruit avours are well balanced, and joined by a smoky polish that gives character and will integrate further during ageing. An estate to watch. A yield of 26hl/ha. 3.6pH. This vineyard has a little over eight hectares in produc- tion, and the average age of the vines in 2018 was 35 to 40 years old. The soil is composed of sandy, slightly gravelly soils atop a ferrous clay subsoil. The blend is 67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sau- vignon. Total aging is expected to run 16 to 18 months in 100% new barrels, and the wine has 14.2% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Ripeau opens with blackberry pie, warm plums and black raspber- ries scents with suggestions of Christmas cake, tru es and earth. Full, rich and spicy in the mouth, the velvety palate has lovely freshness and a long, savory nish.

A real standout, the 2018 Ripeau is a powerful, explosive wine with tons of richness as well as structure. Dark raspberry jam, espresso, mint and leather emerge reluctantly. Today, the 2018 is dense and packed to the core, but it also appears to have terri c potential. Even with all of its richness, the 2018 has a lot of energy and tension. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle. The 100% new oak is already quite well-integrated for a young wine at this stage of its life. Most importantly, Ripeau is positively stellar in 2018. The blend is 67% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted two times.
